Sonic, Knuckles, and Tails team up against a powerful new foe, Shadow, a mysterious villain with powers they’ve never faced before. With their skills diminished, Team Sonic must forge an unlikely alliance. The creators of the previous films have mentioned playing both Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (2001) and the solo game Shadow the Hedgehog (2005) as inspiration. The film is also inspired by narrative elements from the Saturday Morning animated series Sonic the Hedgehog (1993).
