Narrative
Local rebellious teenager Clotaire falls in love with his schoolmate Jackie, but gang violence leads him down a dark, destructive path. Malik Frikah, who plays 17-year-old Clotaire in the film, was a world breakdance champion at the age of 10. One of the characters wears a Rolex Daytona Ceramic in the 90s, but the watch was only released in 2016.

The first part with the kids is pretty good. The film should have been enough for the audience here. Gilles Lellouche directs one of the best French teen romances of the decade.
The rest of the film, the second act, is terrible
Actors François Civil and Adèle Exarchopoulos have no chemistry, their performances in this film are bland and uncompromising. I suspect both actors should start rethinking their careers in French cinema when the two newcomers, Mallory Wanecque and Malik Frikah, outdo them and steal the show in this confusing, mediocre film. At first glance, the film seems like a modern version of The Count of Monte Cristo…
A stylized and tacky male appearance
I mean, the old story of a wronged young rebel who returns to seek revenge and find the one he loves. But it becomes an exaggerated and caricatured toxic masculinity. And by the middle and end of the second act, the plot loses credibility.
What we’ve seen before
The problem – beyond the weight of all this – is the strange determination that the film shows, demanding originality in every shot without ever achieving it. When it comes to making a decision, it always chooses the most formal, the most obvious. This way, French viewers can watch a film that is considered a French blockbuster for three hours, with good marketing and PR.
