A landman, one or more working in the oil industry, will be the middleman between exploration companies and landowners. Typically, a landman’s job is to negotiate and finalize agreements with landowners who hold mineral rights to lease those rights to the company they represent.

They essentially manage the land and secure leases so they can drill for oil and gas. Much like a foreman on a construction site, they build roads, workers’ living quarters (man camp), assemble machinery for excavation, and drill the well itself, especially in remote locations. They are also part Fixer, Problem Solver, and Facilitator.

I’m sure you’ll find out which one!

Landman is my first Taylor Sheridan series, so I don’t have the expectations that a Yellowstone fan seems to have. The main storyline has been engaging and exciting so far, but not overly far-fetched. There are a few subplots that work well in the episodes, but perhaps one of them detracts from the overall quality of the show.

The cast does a good job of portraying their characters

The visual production is commendable; the direction and environment creation are commendable. It would be interesting to hear from those in the industry about how realistic the field scenes are. Billy Bob Thornton is exemplary and really carries the show well.

Overall, a very good series, visually well done and superbly acted
