The film never feels dead, it’s always moving forward

The Apprentice follows Donald Trump through a specific era of his career, from inception and insanity. His biggest hits in the 90s and especially his relationship with his lawyer Roy Cohn. First of all I have to say this movie is beautiful, it has style, the old grain feel of the 80s/90s is beautifully recreated every visible frame is full of details and colors. The feel of the era is definitely carefully crafted and there are some great songs well chosen to accompany the music as well as the visuals.

Comparisons to films like Wall Street are obvious, but Ali manages to make it his own. It’s a very unglamorous and not overly anxiety-inducing portrait, because it’s truly frightening how someone can be like that. The acting is fantastic and sublime, especially Sebastian Stan, who gives a terrifying performance – this is Trump, after all. The only negative thing I can think of about this film is that perhaps it doesn’t explore many of the film’s relationships in depth.
