It was an honor to watch this wonderful film at the AFI Film Festival<\/h4>\n

Narrative<\/h2>\n

In 1972, during the Munich Olympics, a team of American sports broadcasters are forced to cover a hostage situation involving Israeli athletes. <\/p>\n

The film is set in the 1972 ABC control room at the Munich Olympics<\/h4>\n

It realistically depicts both the routine aspects of the control room during the event and the of course the tragic event of the Black September attacks on Israeli athletes. <\/p>\n

The film also aptly shows how technology considered state-of-the-art at the time looks ridiculously primitive today (like giant VCRs, competition for satellite space, manual insertion of graphics, etc)<\/h4>\n

In the control room are ABC sports president Roone Arledge (Peter Sarsgaard), young producer Geoffrey Mason (John Magaro), Olympic vice president Marvin Bader (Ben Chaplin), and German translator Marianne Gebhardt (Leonie Benesch), who do a great job in their roles. <\/p>\n

The use of archival footage of the tragedy by Jim McKay adds to the realism<\/h4>\n

But the most important aspect of any thriller is the screenplay and direction by Tim Fehlbaum, who keeps the viewer on the edge of his seat throughout the film. <\/p>\n

But that joke certainly doesn\u2019t stop me from highly recommending this wonderful film \u2013 you have to see it!<\/h4>\n

My only minor quibble is with the casting of Benjamin Walker as Peter Jennings \u2013 he doesn\u2019t seem quite right for the handsome and elegant newsman I remember (I would probably cut his character and just rely on Jennings\u2019 speaking voice from the Olympic Village).\n<\/p>\n
